Study - Galatea
Owned by David and Sandi
Simons of David Simons Training

Background:
Galatea is a 12 year old warmblood gelding who is one of the main bread
winners for the David Simons Training. An elegant horse this horse was
used in competition as well as featured at Equitana in Brisbane in 2002.
Having been in shoes for many years, his performance crumpled as 5 different
veterinarians diagnosed navicular syndrome/disease and progressive ringbone.
All of them indicating that he only had a few months left and to put
him down.
Sandi
called me and asked for help and I saw him the next day. He could hardly
move or walk. His heels and bars were enormous. I initially did the
hind feet leaving the front Cytek shoes on the front feet, as I did
not want to move too quickly. Note: Galatea standing under on
all legs. SHP Sabine Kells was in town and three days later I removed
those shoes and trimmed all feet with her watchful eye and help.
Gali improved from the very
first trim and has not looked back. In November 2003, Galatea performed
once again in the Mane Event at Melbourne's 2004 Equitana with
great success! He still has some foot form and conformation issues to
deal with, but is improving to full soundness.
