Clinics

The Naked Hoof offers to conduct 1 or 2 day clinics which will give you an idea of what you should be striving for in getting your horse to be barefoot. You can be the host and get your friends to come...

Teaching Sessions would include:

  • Optimal Natural Living Environment
    • What its like in the wild
    • How Human intervention changes things (i.e.. stalling, diet, herd etc.)
  • Basic Hoofcare
    • Physiology and Function of the Foot
    • What Horseshoes do to a hoof
    • What neglect or improper trimming can do to a barefoot hoof
  • Practical trimming on cadaver feet
    • Watching a demonstration
    • Trimming 2 cadaver feet per person
    • Horse handling/trimming skills

The Naked Hoof charges $300 a day (including travel days or parts thereof) as well as return airfare, meals and accommodation. Maximum class size should be around 20 people. Required purchase and reading would be: A Lifetime of Soundness & Shoeing: A Necessary Evil? by Dr. Hiltrud Strasser--which The Naked Hoof sells and I can bring a supply with me ($110 for the two).

What you charge people who come is up to you and market forces...which is why I list my expenses and fees upfront. If you desire to make a profit from your time and effort...that is totally up to you. I will insist on participation waivers which will indemnify me from lawsuits etc, but other than that it should be no problem. You should know that I would come as The Naked Hoof representative and not as a Strasser trimmer as I am not (and will never be) certified. I am wholeheartedly in the Strasser camp in terms of technique and trimming protocols and have completed all her certification training except the final exam resitting. I say this so as not to misrepresent myself to you.
